We received a request from Escola Joaquim Magalhaes school in Faro, Portugal to send them answers to a question "How reading changed my life?"
It turned out that in the times of IT there are still people who enjoy reading. Their answers will be exhibited in students` exhibition in Faro schooll. Would you like to read them?
Inga, 13 :
My first book was about Winnie the Pooh. In this book I discovered the meaning of adventures.
I learned about different characters and it interested me.
I also discovered the existence of the world of evil.
Helēna, 13 :
Reading books helps to express oneself in figurative speech.
By reading books you can develop your imagination.
Sintija, 11:
My favourites are fairy-tales. I like reading about miracles happening to people.
Kārlis, 11:
My favourite book is about Harry Potter.
It is very exciting. While reading I enter a beautiful and magical world. After I learned to read my life is never boring.
Toms, 11: I like reading about pirates and wizards.
I think I have a richer imagination now.
Viktorija Maija, 11:
By reading I learn some advice for different situations. If there were no books, people wouldn`t know about many things. Writers forward their experience to others.
Līga, 17:
Reading has developed my fantasy and enriched vocabulary. I can`t imagine my life without books it would be empty if I couldn`t sit down in the evening and read a bit. Some stories can even change your attitude to the world as it happened with me while reading the works of Paulo Coelho.
Andris, 17:
Reading books has widened my outlook and enriched my vocabulary.

The session of European Youth Parlament in Ventspils was from August 20 to 23. Some delegates of our school took part in this session like Kristiāna Šakina, Dāvids Meladze, Aiva Zariņa, Līga Rtniece, Matīss Tohvs, Tome Egle, Kristīne Bērziņa. On August 20 we arrived in Ventspils and checked in, found our rooms and went to the lobby for the first Official Welcome. We came together, split in committies (AFCO I, AFCO II-Kristiāna, AFCO III-Toms, INTA-Kristīne, AGRI-Matīss, EMPL-Dāvids, LIBE-Aiva, DROI-Līga)and started to do teambuilding, we played some introduction games (Sonic-BOOM, Banana game, Big, fat pony game etc.) It was a great time to get to know each other. In the evening we had "Eurovillage" where we presented our school and got to know some other cultures.
The next day we were woken up by the Journos, they sang the song- "We are the Journos". We got breakfast, then finished teambuilding and started committee work. We discussed political, human, civil issues. In the evening we had a party again, themed "The Pirates of the Baltic sea". The next day was the hardest part of the session, because all day was spent only doing committee work. In the evening we finalised resolutions and went for a long walk around Ventspils. The walk was four hours long, until midnight. When we came back, we got in committies and split the duties for the next day`s GA. We got sleep only for a few hours.
The morning of the fourth day was the last one. After breakfast we went to the "Livonijas ordeņa pils", to General Assembly. We took our places in GA and started presenting our resolutitons. Dāvids and Kristiāna were the braviest and did the reading of the Operative Clauses. The team of Employment (EMPL)- Dāvids were the best, they got almost "everyone for". After GA the bus was already waiting for us, to take us home.
Taking part in this session was an unforgettable experience. It was useful to compare ourselves with others.
Some of us were picked for the next session in Tartu, Estonia. The lucky ones are Dāvids, Kristiāna, Līga, Aiva. Good luck to them!
Dāvids, Kristiāna :)

The second week of February has brought a welcome visitor to Engure. Kaspars Šarovarčenko has come to visit his school, former classmates and teachers. During the English lesson with his former classmates he told about school routine in Newcastle West and answered questions.
A perfect opportunity for everyone present to practice their English skills.
Kaspars says: It was an honour for me to tell about my life in Ireland. First of all Ireland is a nice country to visit not only to work.
It is a great opportunity for foreign students or as Irish call us - New Comers, to study for free in their country.
I have been studying in Ireland for two years and it has given me an oppurtunity to study further in College or University, by completing LCVP programme, (we do not have such a programme in Latvia)this programme is two years long and it helps students to get into College or University and also helps them to find the career that they are interested in. This programme gives also a job opportunity for students that do not want to go to further studies which is also great help for them.
Many people in Latvia think that the education system is lower in Ireland, my opinion is that it is much the same as in here only the students there have the opportunity to choose between subjects, but students in Latvia cannot do that. In school there are three levels that you can do youre study in.
Higher-that is for students that want to go to college.
Ordinary- for students who want to go into college or just want to work after school.
Foundation- this level is for sudents that do not want to go to college and this level prepears students for work and gives job oppurtunities. I think that this education system is much better because not everyone has ability to study.
Irish are very polite people -messy but polite. But as a nation with many New Comers it is changing towards to a nation like America or England.
Ireland is my second home now, it is sad but it is the truth.

In the future July 17 will be celebrated as the birthday of Engure Secondary School Euroclub. Its name is enigmatic - "EE/06" and you may try to guess what these letters stand for.
Our choice was "Engure Eiropā" ( "Engure in Europe") but it could be vice versa as well. The numbers mark the year 2006 when it was founded. The first president is Anita Zariņa. It will be a great challenge for her and she is going to learn a lot at the camp of Latvian Euroclubs in Krimulda on August 23 - 24.
Everyone is welcome to join the club and learn more about Europe!

On Friday, September 30 our pupils of Years 4 and 10 took part in the joint work organized by share-holders company Latvijas Valsts Meži to clean the forest. The Prime Minister A.Kalvitis, ministers E.Jēkabsons, R.Vējonis, A.Baštiks and pupils worked shoulder to shoulder. The Cūkmens (Pigman), a character symbolizing man-produced garbage, wanted to stop or at least hamper the good work, but musicians led by Roberts Gobziņš helped to sustain a good mood.
Everything was filmed by TV journalists and was the news of the evening.
After finishing the work everybody felt hungry and the well-known company "Lido" had laid the table with many delicious things. A snack in the open air tasted fine.
All the participants joined their voices singing the song of this joint work campaign "Don`t Leave Your Garbage in the Wood".
